LIFE…oh, what all man will give for life…  Of course, most want an “abundant life”…more, more, and more of whatever man thinks will make him happy (and to most that has something to do with “sin”).  Jesus never promised man an “abundant life,” He promised that man can have “life more abundantly” (John 10:10).  That “life more abundantly” is His life.  Follow Michael’s progression to the truth of this.

DAY 185

Life

If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. --James 1:5, 6

We need an absolute way to live, a working religion. Carnal man has fought to have every hindrance to the passing pleasure of sin removed, and the result is a people adrift. Safety in being tied to the dock through moral absolutes was no longer valued; now he is free to drift, tossed back and forth in confusion and chaos, eventually thrown from the boat, groping for a life vest in the form of a system that will give him the freedom to experience pleasure, self-centered living, lack of struggles, and happiness, while at the same time make life make sense.

Does such a system exist? It does not exist in the theory of evolution. Man is an animal and yet higher than animals, for it is said he evolved; but where did conscience come from? Should the strong succeed? Those who count themselves among the strong would say, “Yes,” while, “No” would be the answer from those who know themselves to be weak. It is chaos! Such a system does not exist in government; it does not exist in religion. While I believe the opposite also to be true, religion needs government to exist, for the religious will continue to blame the government for their failures. If only government would be eliminated, then religion would succeed; and yet, where religious systems like Islam take the place of government, the carnal desires of man merely go underground. We can therefore conclude that outward systems that encourage the flesh will cause man to break down and outward systems that attempt to hinder the flesh of man also cause man to fall apart. Only one option is left, and that is an inward system that is an absolute that allows man to thrive. If sin were natural, man would bloom, not rot, under it. The only thing that is natural for man is the absolute of Christ, for He created and holds man together. Hence, He is the Way!

God’s wisdom is a marvelous possession, for it turns us from the folly of the thoughts and ways of man to the thoughts and ways of God.  I am reminded of something I heard Michael say years ago: “My IQ is ____ (I think he said 120, or something like that…I don’t remember the specific #), but God’s IQ is 999 ka-zillion and counting (maybe not the exact # Michael gave, but close!)which one do you think is more meaningful?”

Good point, Michael!  So, why does man continue to seek the life he deems so great?  I understand why unregenerate man does…read 1 Corinthians ch.2, especially vs.9-14.  But what I can’t understand is why the regenerated/born again man does so.

Perhaps one answer is what Michael wrote in Day 187: “It is true that if something is not Christian, it is not natural…God…created life, and life speaks just as loudly as Scripture…For just a moment lay aside theological knowledge and let me ask what life has taught you in regard to feeding the flesh, being bitter, hating an enemy, looking within, refusing to love, excusing disrespect, and avoiding God…What life is telling you is consistent with Scripture…God is the author of life, and for life to run smoothly, it must run in Him.”  YES!  The only thing that is natural for man is the absolute of Christ.  That is “an inward system that is an absolute that allows man to thrive.”  Well, amen.

Man is always looking on the outside…God is always interested about the inside.  Too many Christians are still looking to the outside…
